Morning Cleanse: Don't Eat Fats 'Til Noon
Another wonderful tool I learned from Medical Medium was the idea of a morning cleanse. In other words, not to ingest any fats until noon so the liver can focus on purifying toxins instead of working hard to digest fats consumed during breakfast.
What do I mean by fats?
No animal products or byproducts such as eggs, milk and butter and no plant-based fats such as nuts, seeds, or avocados. The idea is to focus on fruits, veggies, oatmeal or fat free smoothies until noon. Since fruits are cleansing, they will help with the purification process. They also contain the good sugars to keep the brain functioning optimally.
For some it can be hard to let go of fats, such as eggs, for breakfast since eggs are such a comfort food. It’s important to keep in mind that eggs feed pathogens and viruses, making your immune system more vulnerable to disease.
I have several recipes to share with pregnant mamas, postpartum mamas and mamas in general. One of my favorite summer breakfasts is the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie by Medical Medium. It’s filling and delicious and it aids on the purification process by clearing out heavy metals. During autumn and winter I stick mostly to oatmeal. I cook them with lots of fruits so the oatmeal is creamy and delicious. Check out my purple power oatmeal recipe. My husband and son love it too.
Since I started doing this, I have kept my weight in check, reduced the amount of fats ingested daily, I have frequent bowel movements and overall feeling of lightness and well-being.
It’s important to mention that this is only one of my many morning rituals. I wake up, work on my Morning Pages, drink my lemon water, celery juice, and then I have my morning cleanse. Uff. It sounds like a lot but once it becomes a habit it’s simple and easy.
Pregnant mamas, it’s totally fine to follow this practice. Just make sure to drink plenty of smoothies loaded with minerals and vitamins as well as eat gluten free oats (check out my banana and blueberry GF cookies) in a morning. It's important to note that you need to eat plenty of good fats after midday, specially as your belly gets bigger!
Postpartum mamas in the first forty days, smoothies or anything cold isn’t for you. In fact, if you want to ingest some fats in the morning go for it. Remember that the first forty days postpartum you need to be extra nourished. Avocados and nut butters are amazing options. Warm nut milks can help you feel cozy. The morning cleanse can wait.
Mamas who aren't pregnant or going through postpartum, this is perfect for you -even if you are lactating. It will help you keep a self care routine amidst the demands of motherhood. It will help you start the day well so you can care for your little (or big) ones with energy and enthusiasm.
